Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2011-12 school year at Osburn Burke Middle School. We hope you and your student have had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to the new school year as much as we are.

Middle school is a time of transition for parents and students. It is a time of choices and challenges. We want to assure you that our experienced staff is here to work alongside you to insure that your son or daughter takes full advantage of his or her educational opportunities. Burke Middle School will provide a safe and nurturing environment where all students, teachers, and staff are respected, encouraged to do their best, recognized for their achievements, and given the support they require to succeed. Our mission, in partnership with our community, is to provide an innovative and challenging learning environment that promotes excellence and prepares our students for the future.

This year, in order to build an even stronger educational environment, Burke’s staff will focus on improving our analysis of student achievement data to identify the essential knowledge and skills that all students should learn in their particular grade level and subject area. As part of this collaborative effort, teachers will work to create standards-based assessments that can be administered to the students to determine subject matter mastery. The data gathered from these assessments will be analyzed on an ongoing basis in order to help inform and improve instruction for all of our students.

Burke Middle School has been an outstanding institution of learning in the city of Pico Rivera for the past fifty years. We have a proud history which we strive to improve upon each and every year. We are happy that you are part of it. Welcome to a wonderful tradition. “Welcome to the Falcon Family!”

Sincerely,
Mark Matthews
Principal
